WE LOVE THE SMELL THAT'S COMING OUTA KITCHEN...MUST BE CHEF PHUTI, RIGHT?

"Cooking came naturally to me. I’m a self taught cook..." - Chef Phuti

The 26 year old Chef, Phuti Sylvia Matsimela in her kitchen getting ready to prepare a meal for a client.

It is normally on birthdays or weddings or funerals when we call special catering in our homes. Women can attest to the fact that they get tired from standing in front of the stove almost every day having to prepare a meal for the family or even themselves (single ladies, etc).

You may be a housewife or working mom or whoever but the truth is you would really appreciate someone coming in to take over that role at least for a day or two especially if you're not a fan of takeaways - just strictly home based cooked meal.

We hangout with the 26 year old Chef, Phuti Sylvia Matsimela to take us through her food business that is based at Mahwelereng Zone 1 in Mokopane, Limpopo.

"Cooking came naturally to me. I’m a self taught cook but in 2019 I grabbed an opportunity of a leanership at ‘Umbuso Fast Food Services’ and lockdown happened," she shares.

Phuti says she chose the chef lane because she loves food, and enjoys cooking wholeheartedly adding that she finds cooking therapeutic. "I started cooking at the age of 14 and 12 years later here I am, selling Platters, different types of Platters: meat, sandwiches, cold meat/cheese, pastry, breakfast, snack and fruit platters. I’m also into buffet cookings and desserts," she says.

Easy snack.

Fruit platter.

Meat platter.

It's no secret that lockdown has hit hard on the economy and businesses such a Chef Phuti's were also affected. She says has learned a lot from it and gained few things she  wasn’t aware of, practically and theoretical.

"Challenges were that I had just started selling during lockdown and I had no equipment to carry on with my business but I fought so that my business can be successful and with the love and support from my community, it worked and it is amazing now," says Phuti.

Her business name CHEFMDG ‘#EatWithMDG’ hires 2/3 people and when she gets a large order to cater for 50-200 people, she then works with at least 6 people.

"I fought so that my business can be successful and with the love and support from my community, it worked and it is amazing now"

Inspired by @dineWithneo and few other chefs via Instagram, Phuti says "owning an open place 'restaurant' where I will be working and selling Platters, and serving Food for sit ins," is her future goal.
